Monica Lewinsky has taken a jab at Bill Clinton and made reference to her notorious 1990s scandal through a Taylor Swift meme. The social activist gained global recognition in 1998 after reports emerged that the sitting US president, at the age of 50, was having an affair with her while she was a 22-year-old White House intern. Clinton was later impeached as a result of the scandal. Lewinsky, who campaigns against cyberbullying among other causes, posted a meme that has gone viral on social media following the release of Swift’s 11th album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department.’

The meme in question features an image that ironically represents the place that “raised” an individual, alongside the lyric “You wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me” from Swift’s track ‘Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?’ Lewinsky posted the lyric alongside an image of the White House, which has garnered 17 million views. People on platforms such as X have been posting the meme with various images, and many have claimed that nobody has hit the nail on the head more than Lewinsky.

‘The Tortured Poets Department’ has broken several records and achieved tremendous success, becoming the most-streamed album in one day and debuting at Number One in the UK with the biggest opening week in seven years. Lewinsky has previously ventured into the pop world in 2022, appearing on Dua Lipa’s podcast ‘At Your Service,’ where she spoke about women’s rights and cyberbullying. She had previously referenced Beyoncé’s song ‘Partition’ in a 2014 editorial she wrote for Vanity Fair.

Since Beyoncé updated her song ‘Heated’ to remove an ableist slur, Lewinsky suggested that perhaps she could consider changing the lyrics of ‘Partition’ as well. She wrote: “Thanks, Beyoncé, but if we’re verbing, I think you meant ‘Bill Clinton’d all on my gown’.” Lewinsky has embraced her past and risen above it to become an advocate for social causes
